Well this years goals have gotten off to a great start.

January 8 Marcy ,Alys, and myself did our first race of the year. It was really cool to start off with this race. It was a MUST. 45Days to Super Bowl 5K  I post my best time so far 43.01. WHOOOO HOOOOO!!! Just so you know how far I have come, when I started this a year ago I did my first 5K in 57. minutes. I am not fast ..... but I am steady... chipping my time away.
Now that brings me to my  fitness goals for the year.

2. I will be doing 2 bike race this year.
3. I would like to do a duel  race that is 2mile run 15mile bike and 2mile run.
4. I will be doing a 10K this year ... about mid way thought my racing.
5. I will be doing a Half this year also.
These are my fitness goals.
I do have some other personal goals.

2. be more centered
3. de-clutter(physically and spiritually)

2010 ... what????? where did you go?!?!

I am sitting here at my computer scratching my head wonder just where in the world did a whole year go????

I started power walking. With that I set a goal with my best friend Marcy to do  a 5K month. We did it!!! 12 5K... it was the most empowering thing that I did.

This has to have been that fast year that I can remember. It was much like riding a roller coaster. It was fast. It had many up and downs, and the came to a sudden stop. I got off this 2010 roller coaster ready to get on 2011 roller coaster.
So much happened in 2010 This this was my ride... hold on!!!

Jan ... That I really can run/power walk  and not die. That watching your daughter on drill team dance makes you smile.
Fed....  That I am blessed with a wonderful man of 4yrs.
March....  That your son turning 21 means, I have so much to learn about being a parent of an adult child. I will not run in sleet and snow. and that it is ok to be last.
April.... That it is ok to cry when your oldest leaves the nest . That some 5K are just much bigger than your own personal goals. That your baby is not a baby any more.
May... That your daughter sparkles when she goes to her prom. That now you have 2 out of high school. That you can still party like a rock star in Vegas with your best friends. That IHop is a must after a 5K and not all IHops are the same.
June... That Austin is really weird and that running in 106 weather in not so bad when you friend is with you.
July... That turning a year older with people in your life you care about makes life worth living to the fullest...and reaching a  5K goal is freak'n awesome. That the beach never never gets old to summer vacation at... and to have your best friends with you even better. That reaching a personal 5K goal on your birthday rocks.
August... That having only one in school ... is still busy as have 3 in school. That realizing that you have completed half of your goals in 5K.
September... That even thought I am a Texan after 3month of super hot weather... I do like cooler weather. That seeing you best friend complete a half marathon... rocks and inspires you.... to think the unthinkable ... that you just might be able to do that too.
October....That it is ok to have a "bad" 5K run. That having your daughter leave the nest... it heartbreaking and your cry alot but you are very proud of her. That a house with just one kid stay much cleaner and is very quite.
November...That I can power walk in super cold weather on Thanksgiving Day. Seeing my older kids doing well on there own..is a great feeling. That being thankful for all the blessing in your life. That hard work does play off in money matters.
December... That blessing people is a incredible feeling. That seeing your son beaming with love because he has asked the love of his life to marry him. That you jingled your way to completing your 5K goal.
And now if you will please exit to the right your 2010 roller coaster ride is over!
Time to do it all again!!!!

life makes you wonder

Sometimes things happen in life that make you wonder.

You wonder why... and the answer never comes or the answer that you were not hoping for.

This is were your trust in God comes into play. You have to trust that He has everything under control.

what I learned this 5K

Well here it is end of September and I just completed my ninth 5K for the year. WOW!!! That is something for me because this time last year I had done my 1st ever 5K. my time on that 5K was 58.and something. It took me almost an hour to complete. I did my Heels, Hills and Him 5K on Sept 26, and finished it in 43.33. Now you might be think ... wow that is not that fast, but for me and non runner, THAT IS FREAK,N AWESOME. Running has never been easy for me but I really love the way I feel after wards... that is why I do it.

Things I learned.

1. I am faster than I think.

2. I can push myself hard... and I wont die.. hehe.

3. I am so encouraged when I see other average people running like me.

4. I can do more than I thought.

what is the real reason you workout.

What is the real reason you work out ... according to LaBrett
1. It makes me feel great. Do fuss while doing? Heck yes I do!, but when I am done nothing compares to how I feel.
2. It is a stress reliever for me. Yes!!!It is my outlet to let off some steam. I don't end up taking it out on the family or the pets...LOL. And yes I get cranking when I cant.
3. I remember that it is not my job. It is my fun. I enjoy the pain of running.. and let me tell you it is pain, running is not my strong workout. I love biking the most. Very freeing to my mind. Even when I push my self to the point of hurling. LOL. When I remember that it is not my job... it stays fun.
4. I like the way my body looks. I am not a size 5 any more nor do I want to be, but I would like to stay in shape. plus working out let me cheat(so to speak) when I eat that wonderful piece of birthday cake or that southern cooking,. or that yummy burger with all the fixens. Most day I eat fresh.... 90% is whole food.... but that is another blog.
5. I want to stay healthy. Starting this life style change almost 2yr ago.... I realized that I was not getting any younger, but getting close to the dreaded change of life. Getting out of bed was not as easy as it use to be.LOL. and 40 seems to be the magic number where your body let you know that .LOL... just ask anyone that is 40 plus... they will tell you. I want to go through that with a healthy body and mind. On a side note.. my cholesterol has always been on the high side 230 even when I was a size 3. and last year it was 200. WHOOO HOOOO. My doctor said that it with the way i am going it will be in the 100's in no time. That just goes to show you that size is not what matters. Remember the Lord made us all different sizes... embrace that. It has taken me 40 plus year to realize that... and sometime I have to remind myself of that. But also your body is what you make it!! Think on that for a while.
6. Exercising keeps the aches and pains ... in check. Because when I don't workout.. I start getting stiff.... weird uh!!! ,but talked with others about this they said the same thing. Are my muscles sore with I have pushed to a different level? ... sure .... but that is different than stiff.
7. Get up off your duff and do it. Yes there are days when I don't want to. Those are the days I fuss the most about it.... but it always makes me feel better. Just remember... it you skip a day... don't beat your self up.. just pick up the next day. Start with a every 3day workout. It will allow you to easy into it. As it becomes more apart of your daily routine you can add more days. DON'T over whelmed yourself .. you will give up if you do... remember this is not your job... it is for you to have fun and feel good.
I encourage you to find joy in your workouts. Find what works for you. Set goals.... they keep you on track.
If you are runner... then sign up for a 5k.
If you are power walker... sign up for a walker friendly 5K ... they are out there.. and you will not be the only one walking... that is experience talking.
If you bike...find a great place to ride sign up for a 5 mile bike race.
If you like dancing... sign up for classes, get some dance tapes. or just turn your radio up and let loose.
If you like aerobic ... buy some tapes.
Just remember you are doing this for you and your alone!
MAKE IT FUN!!!! YOU WILL STAY WITH IT!!
